But the mechanics are all very interesting and the custom levels really let them reach their full potential. Portal 2 introduces many fascinating new mechanics, but doesn't explore them in as much depth. Portal 1 pretty much had one main mechanic that it explored fully, stretching out every possibility it offered in new, progressively more complex ways. Portal 2 is fantastic, but in someways it has problems that portal 1 lacked. They released a story mode after enough people uses cheats to fly though "to at least finish the story". Solutions are rarely much more complex than the main game, but without clues. Standard mode is super difficult because portal tends to put lights on elements you need to look at, draw your eye to the solution.

Portal stories Mel is a portal 2 mod that's free but is pretty much a full game. And the fuller game and added mechanisms made the mod scene nicer.
You are still getting trained for the boss fight, but the puzzles really reward thorough comprehension. Portal 2 is a fuller game with a few "false boss" fights. You got trained for the boss fight, here's the boss fight. I couldn't keep in mind which button was orange and which was blue portal, so controller all the way for me! I'd only suggest kbm if you're really comfortable with them in other games, but remember to check the key mapping in the opening menu to see if anything is oddball to you. There are moments where a bad button press can lead to a rage-quit because you were so close to solving and now you're back at the start. Now that i completed both of the game, what is something interesting about the game i am missing all this years? whether its a funny YouTube video, a insightful discussion about the game on reddit, or some fan made stuff i should definitely check out?Īlso, is there any good puzzle game similar to Portal i should buy?Īdding my two cents - I played both with a controller because the buttons are more intuitive for me. P.s : I lol' ed when i heard the "make life take the lemon back" line. and the ending had me on the edge of my seat! I can now finally rest easy knowing i played one of the most popular game in the world. i am gonna go slowly and enjoy it, but lo and behold it has 9 fucking chapters! i am not really good at puzzle games in general so those unusually complicated and hard puzzle usually turn me off, but Portal 2 puzzles is really short and creative. Portal 1 is so short, in several chapters i keep thinking this must be the last. Portal 2 is way better! I think my favorite part is every puzzle underground narrated by Cave Johnson (and the unmistakable JK Simmons voice ), i just love the whole old abandoned underground test chamber feel, and discovering what happened as i go. Portal is a bit short, i complete it after 2 days. What was i thinking back then? its a great game!

I bought both of the game during summer sale (i paid less than $3 for both title after conversion from my country's currency) and only install it a week ago, and play it after a long day of working.
I've played few puzzle from Portal 1 about 6 years ago but never liked it so i quit.
